Eamon J. McEneaney - 2996 Tribute

Eamon J. McEneaney was a hero in the 1993 attack on the World Trade Center (WTC). Eamon led 63 people to safety down 105 flights of stairs, his wife Bonnie McEneaney has recounted. Eamon was not an ordinary man he was an extraordinary gentlman. On September 11th 2001 Eamon was again working in the WTC, but this time there would be no exit for Eamon to lead people to safety...

Eamon is part of the 2996 Tribute where bloggers are paying Tribute on their blogs to the hero's who were involved with the September 11th terrorist attacks. Click any of the images on this post to visit the other Tributes.

Eamon loved his family, people, and life.

Bonnie McEneaney met her husband, who was born in Rockville Centre and grew up in Elmont, when they were both students at Cornell University. "There was a streaking," she said. "I met him in a bar. He was wearing a towel and I said, 'I like your outfit.'"

A quote by Bonnie:

"I want you to remember something Eamon always preached to me," Bonnie McEneaney said. "Every hour, every minute, every second of your lives is a precious gift. Don't put off too long those things that you want to do. Make sure your priorities are correct and realize what is really important with your life now. Every single day, celebrate life.

And may the light of Eamon always live on in our hearts."

A book of poems by Eamon entitled "A Bend in the Road" is available.

All proceeds from "A Bend in the Road" will go to Irish literature programs at Cornell and the lecture series. It can be ordered by calling 1 (800) 431-1579 or at www.book.clearinghouse.com.

This could happen to you.

I was barely sitting down when I heard a
voice from the other stall saying: "Hi, how are you?"

I'm not the type to start a conversation
in the restroom but I don't know what got
into me, so I answered, somewhat embarrassed,
"Doin' just fine!"

And the other person says: "So what are you up to?"

What kind of question is that? At that point,
I'm thinking this is too bizarre so I say:
"Uhhh, I'm like you, just traveling!"

At this point I am just trying to get out as
fast as I can when I hear another question.
"Can I come over?"

Ok, this question is just too weird for me but
I figured I could just be polite and end the
conversation. I tell them"No..I'm a little busy
right now!!!"Then I hear the person say nervously...
"Listen, I'll have to call you back.
There's an idiot in the other stall who keeps
answering all my questions.

My name is Steve Goldman. I am writing this from one hundred and eighteen years in the future. It appears that the time, day and month are exactly the same, but the year is 2124.

Do not yet ask how, I have not figured it out myself, but I have found a way, using the technology available to get to wordpress.com. I cannot access any other websites from your time, just this one. What I will try and do, once I know that the link to here is stable is to blog. Just like you guys do.

Very quickly as I don’t know how long I’ve got, I’m 33 and a computer engineer. That’s not strange. What is? I was born in 1972. I have been in what you would call the future for about 8 months. Pepperidge Farm remembers and so does Ben Hay author of Henry the Adequate. I think Ben found future lines through Blog Explosion, and I am are glad he did!

Ben wants to make it clear that he is not a fan of future lines, and that future lines is a fan of his! So, Ben please link back to your fan :)

Ben is full of wit and four letter words, so his future line has been modified to protect the guilty. In fairness to Ben, future lines does not public size [sic] the fact there is no profanity so my apologies Ben. If you want your future line removed due to artistic integrity, I completely understand! But, I hope this is not the case.

Future Lines is typically a punchline about something funny someone will say in the future.

Today we make a slight exception for one Mom submitted:

The Cowboy and his dog!

A Texas cowboy was tending to his herd in a remote pasture when suddenly a brand-new BMW advanced out of a dust cloud towards him. The driver, a young man in a Brioni suit, Gucci shoes, Ray Ban sunglasses and YSL tie, leaned out the window and asked the cowboy... "If I tell you exactly how many cows and calves you have in your herd, will you give me a calf?"

The cowboy looks at the man, obviously a yuppie, then looks at his peacefully grazing herd and calmly answers, "Sure, Why not?"

The yuppie parks his car, whips out his Dell notebook computer, connects it to his AT&T cell phone, and surfs to a NASA page on the Internet, where he calls up a GPS satellite navigation system to get an exact fix on his location which he then feeds to another NASA satellite that scans the area in an ultra-high-resolution photo. The young man then opens the digital photo in Adobe Photoshop and exports it to an image processing facility in Hamburg, Germany.

Within seconds, he receives an email on his Palm Pilot that the image has been processed and the data stored. He then accesses a MS-SQL database through an ODBC connected Excel spreadsheet with hundreds of complex formulas. He uploads all of this data via an email on his Blackberry and, after a few minutes, receives a response. Finally, he prints out a full-color, 150-page report on his hi-tech, miniaturized HP LaserJet printer and finally turns to the cowboy and says,

''You have exactly 1586 cows and calves."

"That's right. Well, I guess you can take one of my calves," says the cowboy.

He watches the young man select one of the animals and looks on amused as the young man stuffs it into the trunk of his car.

Then the cowboy says to the young man, "Hey, if I can tell you exactly what your business is, will you give me back my calf?"

The young man thinks about it for a second and then says, "Okay, why not?"

You're a consultant for the National Democratic Party," says the cowboy.

"Wow! That's correct," says the yuppie, "but how did you guess that?"

"No guessing required," answered the cowboy, "You showed up here even though nobody called you; you want to get paid for an answer I already knew, to a question I never asked; and you don't know anything about my business... Now give me back my dog."
